HC 2nd Retreat (Pt. 1)

Last Saturday, we had the second retreat for the class of 2013 of HC. It was just an UNFORGETTABLE experience. That day, we participated in a lot of activities, including team building activity, skywalk, and rock climbing, etc. The most expressive ones to me were skywalk and rock climbing.

SKYWALK

It’s was just something I would never imagine I would experience. When walking on the 61st level and looking down at all those buildings, road, people becoming mini ones, I just couldn’t help imagining the danger and pain if I fell down. However, when I got to the half of the round, I fell much better and more comfortable. It’s largely because I had gradually realized when I were well SUPPORTED and protected, by the equipments which had been checked several time before, and most importantly, by the team I were in and the teammates with me. When I put my hands on the shoulders of Thomas, who was just in front of me, and at the same time, felt the hands of Fred, who was at the back of me, I felt save and could just walk forwards confidently, even though with my eyes blinded. Why could the team move smoothly? It’s because the DIRECTION was being given one after another by the hands of each one well connected. That’s kind of team support. And I believe that’s what a leader should always think about, how to make your teammates feel supported and save.

Also, another thing learn from the skywalk is that you never overcome something before you try it. Before trying something, you just imagine how difficult it will be, what kind of consequences you will face when you fail, how hurt you will feel if you fail, etc. Just like the skywalk, at the very beginning, I just imagine what if I fell down, what if I fell down, what if I fell down, However, after my try, I discover it’s just kind of psychological pressure I am placing on myself. In psychology, there is a term MENTAL SUGGESTION to describe that situation. When you mentally suggest yourself to be negative, you feel negative; when you mentally suggest yourself to be positive, you feel positive. Therefore, it’s really important to be optimistic and give yourself mental suggestion in a positive way. A leadership should think in such way, and a good leader should also help build a positive atmosphere for the whole organization.
